Many Chinese loans are priced as a reference rate plus a fixed margin. If you know both parts, enter them here and the calculator will use their sum as your effective rate. Neither field is pre-filled — Finance Atlas never supplies a market rate.

How Personal Loans Work in China

Personal loans in China (个人贷款 or 消费贷款 for consumer loans) are typically unsecured loans from commercial banks, licensed consumer finance companies or internet bank platforms. Amounts usually range from ¥10,000 to ¥500,000 and terms from one to five years, with the monthly instalment, total interest and any arrangement fee determined by the rate written into your loan contract. Because rates differ by lender, product and borrower credit profile, this calculator never assumes one: you enter the annual rate quoted to you, and the optional advanced panel lets you rebuild it from a reference rate plus margin if that is how your quote is structured.

What counts as the loan amount

Enter the principal you will actually receive. Chinese consumer loans sometimes deduct an arrangement fee or front-load insurance premia at disbursement, which means the money landing in your account can be smaller than the contracted principal you repay. If your quote works that way, enter the contracted principal here and treat the fee separately, or use the general Loan Calculator with the fee rolled in.

Usage restrictions are contractual, not suggestions

Chinese bank consumer loan contracts prohibit using the funds for house purchases, stock market investment or other restricted purposes, and lenders perform post-disbursement monitoring. Spending the money on a restricted use can trigger early repayment demands. This calculator prices the loan but says nothing about permitted use — check your contract's purpose clause before you sign.

What the Results Mean

The Estimated Monthly Payment is the annuity instalment that fully repays principal plus interest over the term you chose. Total Interest is the sum of every interest charge over the life of the loan at the rate you entered, and Total Repayment is principal plus that interest — the true all-in cost of borrowing. If you change the payment frequency to fortnightly or weekly, the number of payments rises but each one shrinks, and interest falls slightly because principal is retired earlier.

Frequently Asked Questions

What interest rate should I enter for a Chinese personal loan?

Enter the annual rate written in your loan offer. Chinese banks price consumer loans individually — there is no single public rate that applies to everyone, and this calculator deliberately never pre-fills one. The 4.50% shown when the page loads is an illustrative example only, not a market rate.

How are Chinese consumer loan rates usually quoted?

Some lenders quote a single annual percentage rate; others price as a reference base rate plus a fixed margin that reprices on an agreed schedule. If your quote is the second kind, open the Advanced panel and enter both parts — the calculator will use their sum and show the effective rate.

What is the typical term for a personal loan in China?

One to five years is normal for unsecured consumer loans, with three years a common middle ground. Longer terms exist for secured lending. This calculator lets you choose from six months to five years; anything longer is usually a different product.

Does this calculator include arrangement fees?

No — it prices principal and interest only. If your lender charges an arrangement fee, add it to the loan amount to see its effect on the instalment, or compare offers on the all-in cost the lender must disclose to you.

Can I use this for a platform or internet-bank loan?

Yes, for any amortizing loan where interest accrues on the declining balance. The maths is the same; only enter the rate that actually applies to your product, and be aware some platform products use daily interest quotes — convert to an annual rate before entering it.
