How the Estimates Are Built — and What They Are Not
Every statutory rate in this calculator was verified against official sources on 1-2 November 2026 and is the same figure published in this section's country guides. The Swiss lines follow the 2026 payroll parameters: AHV/IV/EO at 5.3% of gross with no ceiling, ALV at 1.1% up to the CHF 148,200 annual ceiling, NBU at an average risk-rated 1.06%, and the BVG pension on the coordinated salary — gross above the CHF 26,460 coordination deduction, capped at CHF 90,720 of insured salary — with the retirement credit set by your age band (7%, 10%, 15%, 18% — the 45-54 band rose to 15% in the 2025 BVG reform, confirmed on the Federal Social Insurance Office's own page). The modelled employee share is half the credit, the legal floor; many plans are more generous.
Liechtenstein runs its own 2026 table: 4.9% for AHV, IV and FAK combined (the 0.2% employee FAK share is new from 1 January 2026) with no ceiling, plus 0.5% ALV to a CHF 126,000 annual ceiling. Georgia applies the 20% flat personal income tax to Georgian-source employment income, plus — if you are covered — the funded pension's employee share: 2% on the first GEL 24,000 of annual income and a reduced rate on the band to GEL 60,000; foreigners participate only with a permanent residence permit, which is why the field is a toggle, not an assumption. Panama stacks the CSS employee share of 9.75% (Ley 462 of 18 March 2025) under a progressive income tax: 0% on the first USD 11,000 of annual taxable income, 15% on the excess to USD 50,000, and 25% above — USD 5,850 of tax at exactly USD 50,000. The UAE, as verified in September 2026, levies no personal income tax on salaries and no mandatory social contributions on expatriate private-sector employees.
What this calculator will not do is invent the two numbers it cannot know. Swiss and Liechtenstein income taxes depend on your canton, commune, municipality, permit and family situation — the fields are yours to fill, and at zero the net shown is the payslip-like view before tax. The Panama tax is computed on your gross annualised, while real taxable income allows deductions — so treat it as a ceiling, not a quote. And the comparison line converts the two nets at the exchange rate you enter, never a fetched one.

A worked sanity check: at the Swiss median of CHF 7,024 the statutory employee lines compute to CHF 372.27 (AHV/IV/EO) + CHF 77.26 (ALV) + CHF 74.45 (NBU) = CHF 523.98, or 7.5% of gross — the same arithmetic published in the Swiss payslip guide, before the BVG share and income tax. At Liechtenstein's CHF 7,401 median the first pillar computes to CHF 362.65 + CHF 37.01 = CHF 399.66, or 5.4%. On a UAE basic wage of AED 12,000, five years of service accrue AED 42,000 of gratuity. On GEL 30,000 a year in Georgia the pension employee share is GEL 540. On USD 50,000 in Panama the income tax is exactly USD 5,850. These are the numbers the test suite re-computes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are the net figures exact tax advice?
No. They are educational estimates built from verified statutory rates — the social-insurance lines (Swiss AHV/IV/EO 5.3%, ALV 1.1% and NBU; Liechtenstein's 4.9% AHV/IV/FAK and 0.5% ALV; Georgia's 20% income tax and funded pension; Panama's 9.75% CSS and 0/15/25% brackets) follow the published 2026 rules, but your permit, canton, commune, pension plan, municipality and family situation all move the final number. Where a statutory rate cannot honestly be computed — Swiss and Liechtenstein income tax — you enter it yourself and the page says so.
Why is Swiss income tax not computed for me?
Because Switzerland taxes at cantonal and communal level with wide variation, plus withholding-tax schedules for many foreign employees. No single statutory rate exists to compute — so the field is yours: enter the effective rate for your canton and situation, or leave it at zero to see the net before income tax (the payslip-like view).
Why is the UAE net the full salary?
Because the verified position is 0% personal income tax on salaries (checked September 2026) and no mandatory social-insurance contribution for expatriate private-sector employees — so nothing statutory comes off. The honest cautions: VAT of 5% applies to most spending, business income can fall under the 9% corporate tax, and your home country's tax system may still follow you.
What about Georgia's famous 1% tax?
The 1% is the Small Business Status turnover tax on registered individual-entrepreneur business income up to GEL 500,000 a year — salary income sits outside it by statute (Article 90(3)). For an employed salary this calculator applies the 20% flat tax on Georgian-source income; foreign-source income of a Georgian resident is exempt under Article 82(1)(u), a rule the guide covers in detail.
Does the calculator model pensions and the UAE gratuity?
Partly, and always labelled. The Swiss BVG line is modelled on the statutory minimum: your age band's retirement credit on the coordinated salary, split evenly between employer and employee as the law's floor allows — your actual plan can be more generous. The UAE end-of-service gratuity is shown as an informational accrual on basic wage (21 days per year for the first five years, 30 days after, capped at two years' basic wage) — it is a balance-sheet promise, not a monthly payslip line. Neither is cash in hand today.
